Italy: European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (E.MA)

Admissions to the 2017/2018 edition of the European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (E.MA) are open: first deadline – 20 January 2017, second deadline - 15 March 2017. E.MA was created thanks to the support of the European Interuniversity Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC) and 41 participating universities from all member states of the European Union.

E.MA is a one-year course aimed at educating up to 100 professionals annually in the field of human rights and democratisation. The Master’s Degree is also an action- and policy-oriented approach to learning that combines legal, political, historical, anthropological, and philosophical perspectives with skills building activities, an in-depth study of the following areas: Human Rights Institutions, Mechanisms and Standards; Human Rights in Context: Historical, Philosophical, Religious and Anthropological Perspectives; Democratisation; Human Rights and Globalisation; Human Rights and Security. E.MA is the foundation for a successful career in national, international, governmental, inter- and non-governmental organisations, as well as academic institutions dealing with human rights and democratisation.

E.MA is both a residential and an exchange programme. The first semester from September 2017 to January 2018 is held at EIUC premises in Venice and the second semester from February to July 2018 takes place in one of the 41 participating universities within the members states of the European Union.

After graduation E.MAlumni can be found worldwide in key international human rights organisations and academic institutions, but also in field missions or back home working for their own Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Development Aid agencies or national NGOs.

Tuition fees amount to 4.900 euro (plus enrolment fee of 150 euro). Tuition fees cover the following: all courses of the European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation, both in the first and second semesters; the reading materials for the first semester; tutorship; access to the EIUC specialised library; individual access to our closed e-learning environment; use of available IT facilities (including wireless area and computer room) and the field trip.

How to register:

The call for applications for the academic year 2017/2018 is now open. Please note that applications will be processed on an on-going basis.
First Round Deadline: 20 January 2017.
Second Round Deadline: 15 March 2017.
If selected, please note that you will have to provide the E.MA Secretariat with the originals of your university degree and transcript of exams. Applicants completing the degree entry requirements subsequently to the application deadline are requested to provide a current transcript of exams. Admittance into the programme is conditional upon documentation of completion of studies prior the beginning of the new academic year (31 August 2016).
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted in due time and by 31 May 2017 at the latest.
