MCF will be hosting it's third annual workshop with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in October. This year's session will focus on International Humanitarian Law along with Islamic Law and negotiating access.

The two day workshop with expert Dr. Ameur Zemmali who will lay out the principles behind the harmonisation of IHL and Shariah and lay out the Islamic framework for conceptualising and promoting IHL. The second day will deal with access, and the legal and practical basis for humanitarian access and the different approaches and methodologies in securing it.

The cost of this workshop is £30 for the two days with MCF members receiving a 20% discount at £24. This includes lunch and refreshments for both days. Delegates will need to organise their own transport and accommodation if applicable.

About Dr. Ameur Zemmali

Dr Zemmali studied law and subsequently qualified as barrister, Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, Tunis University. He holds a Diploma in Advanced Legal Studies and a PhD in Law, Faculty of Law, Geneva University, Switzerland.

He joined the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 1985, as consultant, before being a staff member of its Legal Division and legal adviser in the field. He joined later the ICRC Protection Division, after which he was based in the field, respectively, as advisor of the ICRC for Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and ICRC advisor for the Islamic World Affairs.

Dr Zemmali is the author of several publications relating to international humanitarian law (IHL) in Arabic, English, and French, including the Islamic law concerning the protection of victims of war.
